Teagasc has announced that the annual National Farm Safety Conference will take place at the Auburn Lodge Hotel, Ennis, Co Clare, on Friday, November 17.
The opening address will be delivered by Pat Breen, Minister of State for Trade, Employment, Business, EU Digital Single Market and Data Protection, who has national responsibility for occupational safety, health and welfare. Minister Breen will be introduced by Martin O’Halloran, CEO of the Health and Safety Authority (HSA).
The conference, sponsored by FBD Insurance, is being organised jointly by the HSA, Teagasc and farming organisations represented on the national Farm Safety Partnership advisory committee. John Comer, president, Irish Creamery Milk Suppliers Association (ICMSA) and Dr Tom Kelly, Director of Knowledge Transfer, Teagasc, will chair conference sessions.
The theme of the conference is ‘Protecting your Life and your Livelihood’. This theme is very topical as farm deaths have tragically spiked again in 2017, with 22 so far this year. Six farm deaths occurred in the final two months of 2016, so a key message is that safety vigilance is needed over the coming months.
