John O’Gorman named new Dairygold chairman


John O’Gorman has been elected as the new chairman of Dairygold, Ireland’s largest farmer-owned co-operative. Mr O’Gorman, who has served as vice-chairman since 2017, replaces James Lynch who served as chairman maximum three-year term.

Mr O’Gorman, from the Tipperary region was first elected to the board of Dairygold in January 2013. Speaking after his election, the new Dairygold chairman said: “I’m honoured to have been elected to serve as chairman of Dairygold. It is a long-standing and ambitious organisation with a deep commitment to its members and shareholders. I am grateful to the board for the confidence and trust they have shown in me and to the members who have supported me over many years. I look forward to working closely with the Board, Chief Executive Jim Woulfe, staff and Dairygold’s Members. I would like to also pay tribute to my predecessor James Lynch who served as chairman with great leadership and stewardship over the last three years. Dairygold has had a remarkable period of growth and development that has supported our Members to realise their on-farm ambitions. I look forward to playing my part in Dairygold’s continued success and exciting future.”

John O’Gorman and his wife Alison have three daughters and live in Clogheen, Co Tipperary. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and Business Management and a Diploma in Corporate Direction, Food Business from University College Cork.

The position of Vice-Chairman will be filled at the next meeting of the Dairygold Board. Meanwhile, before Christmas, Dairygold announced the appointment of two new members to its board.

Patrick Clancy from Ballyporeen, a member of the Mitchelstown Regional Committee has been elected to the board to fill the position previously held by Pat O’Keeffe. Mr Clancy, a dairy farmer from Ballyporeen, Co Tipperary has been a member of the Regional Committee since 2005 and follows in his father’s footsteps as a member of the Board of Dairygold.

Maurice Curtin, a member of the Limerick Regional Committee was elected to the board to fill the position previously held by Dairygold’s outgoing chairman James Lynch. Mr Curtin, a dairy farmer from Tournafulla, Co Limerick has been a member of the Regional Committee since 2004.
Mr Pat O’Keeffe along with Mr James Lynch retired from the Board at the end of the year having served the maximum permitted term of 10 years.
