The Irish economy is in recovery phase now, with over 80,000 new jobs created in the past two years, the Teagasc Rural Development Conference was told in Limerick today. Growth in food small and medium-sized enterprises (SME) is identified as being very important to deliver jobs in the future, particularly in rural areas.
Macra na Feirme has launched Young Farmer Skillnet, an informal training programme for young farmers. The programme was devised following an analysis of young farmers which revealed that there is both a lack of further training opportunities available for them, and no culture of further training among them.
The Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Simon Coveney met his French counterpart, Stéphane Le Foll in Paris yesterday. The Ministers discussed the issue of climate change and agriculture and, more specifically, preparations for the upcoming UN conference on climate change, which will take place in Paris at the end of the year.
