Concern about US focus on EU farm supports

Vice-president of the European Parliament and MEP, Mairead McGuinness, has voiced concern over US tariffs on European food exports, following the imposition of a 17 per cent customs duty on Spanish olives in recent days. Ms McGuinness, who is a member of the Parliament's Agriculture Committee, voted in favour of a parliamentary resolution urging the Commission to investigate the issue and react appropriately.

Co-ops aware of real pressure on dairy farmers

IFA national dairy committee chairman Tom Phelan has said differences between the milk-price cuts announced by milk purchasers so far, from 1c/l from Lakeland to a massive 3c/l from Glanbia, show differences in the appreciation the co-ops have of the very real pressures a long winter, late spring and the most severe snow storm in a generation have imposed on dairy farmers.

The Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Michael Creed and Bord Bia's CEO Tara McCarthy will launch a new Bord Bia Insight Centre in London during their visit to the UK for St. Patrick`s Day events. The visit will also see them engage with the leaders of some of the UK's foremost businesses, key customers of Irish food and drink, to reinforce Ireland's commitment as a supplier and to discuss the progress of these business relationships into the future. This activity underlines the value of the UK for Irish food and drinks exports estimated at over €4.5bn.
