As the winner of the 2017 FBD Young Farmer of the Year Award, PJ O’Keeffe represents a new generation with a balanced approach to life and farming. Tomas Turley, on the other hand, has just retired from Teagasc after completing a 34-year career in the advisory services. Both men spoke to Matt O’Keeffe and shared some thoughts on the state of Irish agriculture.

Call for National Food Strategy at agri-food conference

 

Senior members of the agri-food industry in Ireland have been urged to consider the development of a ‘National Food Strategy’, and to avoid complacency when it comes to meeting ongoing challenges in the sector.

Prestigious event celebrates 20th anniversary of FBD Farmer of the Year

 

The 20th FBD Young Farmer of the Year will be crowned on September 11 at the Castleknock Hotel in Dublin. Organised by Macra na Feirme and supported by the Irish Farmers Association (IFA), there are six additional awards on offer alongside the main prize in this landmark year for the event. Young farmers involved in sectors such as beef, dairy, sheep and other enterprises (including horticulture, pigs, poultry, tillage) are invited to enter and the winner of each sector will compete to be crowned the 2018 FBD Young Farmer of the Year.
