Bovanto’s Anthony Mimna has drafted a handpicked consignment of circa 60 lots for this year’s sale, which includes 50 in-calf heifers and 10 suckler cow and calf pairings. The sale will include a selection of predominately circa 650-800kgs continental suckler-bred Limousin-crosses, Belgian Blue-crosses, Parthenaise-crosses and Charolais-crosses that have been purchased from livestock marts nationwide.
They are AI’d to Limousin sires including, but not limited to:
- Ewdenvale Ivor (LM2014);
- Loyal (LM4184);
- Townleyhall Rupert (LM7719);
- Tomschoice Scorpion (LM1109);
- Elderberry Galahad (EBY);
- Slieve Pablo (LM7266).
Commenting, Anthony says: “We are confident that this is the best offering of heifers we have brought to the market to date. There are some exceptionally coloured lots within the sale – red and white, black and white and red. We try to consign a selection of heifers for all types of systems, budgets and markets on one night, all under one roof. We have some top-drawer heifers, but also some lesser muscled types to cater for all. The more types of customers we can satisfy, the better.”
“We are always planning for the following year’s sale, so the remainder of the herd comprises the next batch that are coming on for the next sale. We have a further 40 ready to AI at the moment. We try to get as many in natural heat as possible, but that does not always work out like that when you are trying to have a batch calving within a short window. So, in that case, we generally, in batches of 30 heifers, we follow a synchronisation programme involving and double AI – in the morning and evening, which has been successful for us so far.”
Heifers are Lepto-vaccinated, dosed regularly, mineral supplemented and can be exported directly from Carnaross Mart on sale night. Heifers can be viewed on-farm before the sale, by appointment only.
