Fine-tuning Irish Dairy Conference

A host of Irish farmers and leading industry players attended the fourth Fine-tuning Irish Dairy Conference on Thursday in Limerick.

The event – which was sponsored by AXA Insurance and supported also by MSD Animal Health and the National Dairy Council – heard from a range of expert speakers tackling key issues for dairy farmers today, including climate action, food security and labour.

Pat Murphy, CEO Kerry Dairy Ireland, discussed the changing face of the Irish dairy industry and highlighted the work ongoing at Kerry to respond to consumer trends. The audience also heard from Zoe Kavanagh, CEO National Dairy Council and spokesperson for the European Milk Forum, on the challenges for dairy farmers in relation to their social license to produce. Dr David Styles, University of Limerick, looked at the topic of climate change and who takes responsibility; while Philip O’Connor of ifac highlighted issues around energy and the environment, as well as labour shortages.
