Helen has decades of experience in business, public service, community and political activity across the county and city, and her campaign is underpinned by one core aspect: her commitment to, and passion for, Limerick.
“I want to represent the entire community across Limerick city and county, from the business, farming, marginalised, sporting, charitable, educational and arts/culture sectors,” she said.
Helen is known county-wide for opening and operating the cafe at the Hunt Museum, setting up Limerick Tidy Towns and co-founding Team Limerick Clean-Up, chairing a variety of boards including Limerick City Business Organisation, ADAPT Women’s Refuge, PAUL Partnership, and much more.
Helen also has had extensive political experience in her career across numerous organisational boards and forums. One of these was sitting beside John Bruton and John Hume on the Forum for Peace and Reconciliation in 1994, as part of the Northern Ireland Peace process. Helen was invited to be a member of the forum by Bruton, who became Taoiseach while the forum was in session. Helen was also named Limerick Person of the Year in 2012.
