Applications open for Bord na Móna’s Accelerate Green 2023 programme

Bord na Móna is inviting applications for the Accelerate Green 2023 Programme, Ireland’s first accelerator programme aimed at supporting early-stage companies leading the response to climate action and sustainability.

Accelerate Green, an accelerator programme designed for sustainable business, is delivered by Bord na Móna in conjunction with Resolve Partners. It is the first accelerator programme of its kind in Ireland dedicated to supporting companies developing products and services based on green innovation. Accelerate Green will help business leaders identify clear pathways to scaling their novel solutions, delivering measurable impact and supporting economic development.

During the last financial year over 90% of Bord na Móna investment met the EU’s criteria for ‘environmentally sustainable’ across areas such as renewable energy, land use change and the circular economy. Bord na Móna is building its business and sustainability strategy in line with the EU’s Green Deal and Accelerate Green is central to the company’s commitment to the Deal.

Tom Donnellan, Chief Executive, Bord na Móna, said: “Central to the success of the EU’s Green Deal are climate solutions leaders like Bord na Móna partnering with existing and future customers and suppliers, up and down the value chain, working to produce more sustainable goods and services. In this regard, Bord na Móna recognises the potential of businesses participating in Accelerate Green to help deliver on the vision of the EU Green Deal. We are looking for companies that will become the next leaders in their sector and who can inspire other start-ups and scaleups across Ireland towards success.”

Accelerate Green 2023 will see the third group of companies to take part in the Accelerate Green series of programmes. Seventeen companies have already taken part in the 2022 programme, and the more specialised ‘Pre-Accelerator’ programme that is currently underway. The 2022 programme culminated in Ireland’s Sustainable Future Conference which was attended by industry leaders from across Ireland.

Bord na Móna, in conjunction with Resolve Partners, are looking for companies at an early stage of development that are involved in developing novel, technological solutions that are designed to solve challenges at scale in areas such as renewable energy, sustainable food and beverage and the circular bioeconomy.

Alan Costello, Resolve Partners said; “Accelerate Green is designed to create a step change in your business and is a fantastic opportunity for scaling companies leading the response to climate action and sustainability. Those who participate in the programme will have access to the infrastructure, expertise and world-class mentors needed to help your company navigate the path to impact at scale. After the success of our previous cohorts we are looking forward to bringing new companies onboard and growing the community of companies helping to lead the green revolution.”

Over the course of the programme the companies will be brought through a series of deep learning and mentoring sessions and will engage with a broad array of speakers from enterprise and energy agencies, Irish corporates, research networks, investors, and successful business leaders. The programme will be delivered in person at a Bord na Móna premises in Boora, Co. Offaly.

Previous companies that have successfully taken part in Accelerate Green include Borrisoleigh Bottling Ltd, GoEve, Real Leaf Farm, Jones Celtic BioEnergy (JCBE) and Positive Carbon. More information about the first cohort can be found on the Accelerate Green website, accelerategreen.ie
