The online platform offers farmers a ‘safe, convenient, transparent, and sustainable ecosystem for the sale and purchase of livestock’ and the company will be showcasing the product at the Enterprise Ireland’s Innovation Arena at the 2023 National Ploughing Championships.
The new platform allows sellers to list their livestock, complete with all essential details (breed, weight, etc.) and high-quality images and videos, to ‘empower buyers to make fully informed decisions’. Sellers also set their own pricing levels.
Buyers can explore the listings, at their convenience, and bid in a fully transparent environment, with all bids visible in real-time. Once the highest bid crosses the reserve price, the livestock is sold. Payment is securely transferred to an escrow account via Trustap. This means that funds will not be released until certain conditions are met.
Kevin O’Connor, CEO and co-founder, Farm Fayre, explained: “Farmers can buy or sell in minutes, right from their field. They can be confident that their funds and livestock are always safe, and that the livestock will be collected and delivered at their convenience. Farm Fayre stands by a straightforward commitment, the buyer receives what was promised, and the seller is promptly paid. Should any issues arise, seasoned industry arbitrators are on standby to swiftly resolve them, guaranteeing equitable outcomes for all parties.”
Earlier this year, Farm Fayre completed the 2022 AgTechUCD Agccelerator Programme run by the AgTechUCD Innovation Centre at UCD Lyons Farm for early-stage start-ups in the ag-tech, agri-food, equine and veterinary sectors, and who have ambition to grow globally. The application process for the next 12-week hybrid programme, which starts in mid-October, is currently open.
