TB on the Oireachtas committee’s agenda

The Joint Oireachtas Committee on Agriculture and Food will meet tomorrow (Wednesday, June 17) to discuss the eradication of bovine TB.

The meeting will hear from representatives from the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine and the TB 2030 Stakeholder Forum.
Speaking ahead of the meeting, chair of the committee, Deputy Aindrias Moynihan said: “Bovine TB continues to impact herds throughout Ireland. Since reaching a historical low in 2016, when herd incidence in this country fell to 3.27 per cent, we have seen bovine TB levels increase year on year. It is very evident that there is a real need to address the root causes of TB and for a more science-driven strategy in order to tackle the disease.
“We look forward to our discussion tomorrow with the Department and the TB 2030 Stakeholder Forum to get their perspectives on what implementations could be introduced to bolster the work already being carried out and we will look to them to outline their positions on what are the positive and negative impacts of the current strategies being utilised to eradicate bovine TB.” The committee convenes on June 18 at 3:30pm.
