Successful Guild Awards 2024

Last month, the Guild of Agricultural Journalists of Ireland, in association with FBD, hosted a gala dinner in The Castleknock Hotel to celebrate the best in agricultural journalism.

The awards are held biennially and nominations come from across the island. The guild was formed in 1961 and has a membership of 135 agricultural journalists. This year, there were 170 entries across nine categories. The chair of the judging panel was former head of RTÉ Radio 1, Tom McGuire, and he was joined by Anne Marie Butler, head of education, Teagasc; Joe Healy, chair of the Agri-Food Regulator; Michelle Filippi, PR consultant; and Maeve Dineen, communications consultant.
The awards were presented by Stella Meehan, chair of the Guild of Agricultural Journalists of Ireland, who also presented ‘The Bull’ – the prized and prestigious overall award – to Caitríona Morrissey, deputy editor, Irish Farmers Journal. The trophy was presented to the Guild by Bord Bainne, now Ornua, over 50 years ago.
